12 Mar Motiva Breast Implants Now Available
I am proud to introduce into my practice the use of the newest 6th generation breast implants, Motiva, developed by Establishment Labs. These implants were completely designed and engineered for the purpose of enhancing the breast, while minimizing many of the complications associated with breast implants. Over the decades, breast implants have been fraught with various complications, such as implants leaking, either silicone leaking out and into the body, or saline implants deflating. We have dealt with implants shifting out of position, sliding under the arm, or down onto the lower chest. We have had a constant issue with the body’s reaction to implants, leading to the body forming scar around that implant, which leads to contracture, misshapen implants, pain, increased ripples and wrinkles, difficulty with mammograms, and breast cancer detection.
Most recently, with the advent of a textured surface to implants, used to significantly minimize the scar capsule around implants, and to help hold the implants in the correct position, a new problem became apparent. A rare individual will form lymphatic tissue around the implant, to add fluid and cushion. That rare individual can then go on to see this lymphatic tissue become malignant and form an Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL), which can then go on to become malignant. Now, this condition is exceedingly rare, and virtually curable at the time of initial discovery. I have seen only one case in 34 years. But it remains a concern.
Enter Motiva Implants. They are a true solid implant with the gel and outer shell being produced as a single unit. They have a faint blue seal that is visible on the implant itself to detect a break in the shell. They have the least reactive surface of any implant to date, yielding less tendency to form
scar capsules. And there are NO incidences of ALCL tumor with this implant, even though it has an extremely fine level of texture. And this implant has been available and used in Europe over the past 14 years. So it has a wonderful track record.
Personally, another benefit I see is that the implant gel is still solid but much more elastic and softer, more closely resembling a woman’s breast. Their Ergonomic implant will settle into a teardrop or natural shape, in whichever position your body is, just like a natural breast. They are softer to the touch than other implants.
